As Act 2 of Ghost of Tsushima races toward its bloody finish, Jin Sakai is caught between a rock and a hard place. He is both Lord Sakai, the dutiful heir to his uncle's legacy, and the Ghost, a shadowy warrior who has thrown the samurai code out the window. The Fate of Tsushima is the first half of a two-part assault to reclaim Castle Shimura. By the end of this grisly bridge battle, only one identity will be left standing. Players should hit the ground running, because this mission packs a serious punch.

How to Start The Fate of Tsushima

To kick things off, Jin must return to the war camp from A Reckoning in Blood, tucked away in the bamboo thickets of the Old Toyotama Hills. The map below shows the location.

When Jin arrives, Shogun reinforcements are already at the front gate. The story flows automatically once he crosses the threshold, but first he needs to speak with Yuna. There is also an optional moment to chat with his other allies, so players shouldn't wander too far; everyone is hanging around the center arena. After the heavy talk about Taka and the coming fight, Jin heads out to meet Lord Oga.

Lord Oga escorts Jin up the hill to a watchtower, where Lord Shimura drops a bombshell: the Shogun has approved the adoption request. When the dust settles, Jin will be heir to all of Tsushima. It is a heavy crown, and the mission proper begins right after that conversation.

Breaking the Outer Gates

The samurai line up and charge headlong into the Mongol defenders outside the castle grounds. Jin dismounts automatically when the fighting starts. The first real headache is not the swordsmen on the ground, but the Mongol archers raining arrows from the castle walls. Players should keep their eyes peeled and pick off those archers before cleaning up the melee fighters.

After the first wave, a battering ram punches through the outer gate. Jin moves through and faces another Mongol squad, this time with archers positioned on flat ground further down the path. They are easy to spot, but don't get caught flat-footed: take them out first, then move in for the kill.

The Courtyard and the Hwacha

Jin busts through a second gate into a large, leveled courtyard. Archers pepper him from higher ground, then from a perch above the final gate. The same rule applies: clear the archers before the ground fight. Once the courtyard is secured, there is a brief calm before the storm. Jin can stock up on Ghost Weapons and ammo from small supply piles scattered around. When ready, he finds a ladder around the wall to scout ahead.

What he discovers is a huge Mongol force led by a nameless commander. Instead of opening the gate and charging in, Jin poisons several soldiers, drops down, and slaughters the leader. In the middle of the decapitation, Lord Shimura breaks through the gate and witnesses the Ghost in action. That moment is the straw that breaks the camel's back for their relationship.

While Shimura lectures Jin about honor, the Mongols open fire with a hwacha and cut down several samurai. Players must push through, dodge the red circular AOE markers, and defeat the hwacha operators.

There is a silver lining here: after killing the operators, Jin can use the enemy hwacha against them. Friendly fire is not an issue, so players can rain hell into the middle of any crowd. Yuna eventually calls out that the area is clear.

The Final Push and the Trap

Jin rejoins his allies and drives the enemy across the bridge. The final combat sections echo the earlier brawls, with archers on the edges trying to snipe him. The same playbook works: neutralize the archers, then clean up the rest. After clearing the courtyard with the large structure and Mongol tents, Jin climbs the gatehouse tower to see what lies ahead.

From the top, Jin, Yuna, and Lord Shimura watch the samurai charge across the bridge toward the final keep. It is a deathtrap, and the Mongols spring it perfectly. Scores of samurai die on the bridge, and Lord Shimura barely flinches before barking orders at Jin.

Jin refuses to keep feeding men into the grinder and openly questions his uncle. The quest ends with Shimura demanding a private conversation, leading directly into the Act 2 finale, From the Darkness.

Quick Objectives Recap

  • Speak with Yuna and optional allies

  • Meet Lord Oga and Lord Shimura in the watchtower

  • Clear the outer gate and courtyards

  • Defeat the hwacha operators and use the weapon

  • Push across the bridge and witness the deathtrap

Pro Tips

  • Always deal with archers first. They will make every skirmish a nightmare if left unchecked.

  • Watch for the red AOE circles from the hwacha fire. Sprint out of them as soon as they appear.

  • Use the hwacha aggressively once Jin captures it; enemies cannot hurt his allies with it.

  • Stock up on Ghost Weapon ammo during the courtyard break. The next fights are rough.

  • Don't skip the optional ally conversations. They add texture to the story and sometimes extra context.
